OUR CURRICULUM…

At the McDermott Road Preschool, we believe that preschool is an important part of children’s development where they can learn social skills and important foundations of academics.  These skills are essential in preparing children for future educational opportunities.  In addition to these skills, we also want to nurture our students’ love and knowledge of God’s Word.

Each unit of study considers each child’s stage of development and builds upon that development through the use of a combination of a traditional preschool curriculum and Bible stories.  Our goal is to help every child develop his/her full potential spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, physically, and socially.  We do this through a focus on social skills, music, art, math, science, and centers in the classroom setting.

Social skills…
provide many experiences to assist your child in understanding himself, others, the world around him, and God’s love for all. All children spend time on the outside playground and/or indoor playground each day.
Music…
allows time for creativity, self-expression, and a release of emotions. Confidence is gained through singing with a group. We have all of the classes attend Chapel each morning for this opportunity as well as for the opportunity to start our day with a prayer.
Art…
in various mediums, gives satisfaction by manipulation, blending of colors, and a wonder of beauty.
Math…
begins with an awareness of numbers and recognition of basic geometric shapes developed through songs, games, planned play, and educational equipment.
Science…
is learned through exploration, discovery, and developing an awareness of the physical properties of everything around the child.
Centers…
encourage role-play, both independently and as a group, and help the child further his/her own identity and learn responsibility.
Lunch and snack times…
provide a place for social development and conversation. A rest time with relaxing music and stories is welcome after a busy morning. The 1s, 2s, and 3s classes rest after lunch each day.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS…

Can I schedule a tour of the preshool?
Kathy is happy to schedule tours by appointment only. If you would like to take look at our facility, please contact Kathy at 214.387.0068, or send an email to [email protected]. She would love to show you around and answer any of your questions.

What type of special events do you have?
There are three main special programs held during the school year.  The first is Meet the Teacher which provides you the opportunity to see your child’s classroom and spend time visiting with his/her teacher.  The second is a Christmas Program held before the students get out for Christmas Break.  The third is a come-and-go Open House.  And finally there is an end-of-the-year program with a graduation ceremony for our oldest students.  Not only do we want to show you some of what the children learned throughout the year, but we also want to offer these students a send-off as they move into the world of kindergarten.  Also, several Parent Coffees are conducted throughout the year as a way to assist teachers, and as an opportunity for parents to get to know one another.
