Psalm 51 | Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God
This week in our Summer in the Psalms series, Sam Mimms explores Psalm 51 and David’s response after being confronted with the devastating reality of his sin. Through David’s story, Sam challenges us to stop assuming that righteousness belongs to us while wickedness belongs to other people, and instead to honestly face the sinful desires and failures within our own hearts. He shows how David approaches God without excuses or claims of personal goodness, appealing instead to God’s steadfast love, abundant mercy and willingness to forgive. Sam reminds us that repentance is not simply about trying harder, doing more or maintaining the appearance of righteousness, but about asking God to create in us a clean heart and renew us from within. Ultimately, we are invited to entrust even our worst sins to the God whose mercy is greater than our failures, believing that the cross is powerful enough to forgive, restore and transform us for His glory.
