Idolatry: When Political Alliances Become Spiritual Adultery

Ezekiel pictured Israel's political alliances with foreign nations as adultery; not because alliances are inherently wrong, but because Israel pursued them out of fear and ambition rather than trust in God, giving away her heart to powers that could never truly save her. The same temptation faces the church today: political alliances that promise protection, influence, or victory can quietly become a rival relationship, competing with our covenant loyalty to Christ. Idolatry rarely announces itself; it shows up disguised as pragmatism, patriotism, or self-preservation. This class will focus on recognizing when our political attachments have crossed the line into idolatry, and what it looks like to repent and return to our first love. (Ezekiel 16:23-29)
